National Board Certification

The Zachary Community School Board encourages our teachers to seek National Board Certification through the National Board Professional Teacher Standards (NBPTS). The NBTS is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to advance the quality of teaching and learning. In doing so it has established high standards for what teachers should know and be able to accomplish and has created a system to certify teachers who meet these standards.

Gaining certification through the NBPTS is a voluntary process open to teachers with a baccalaureate degree and three years of classroom experience. Through this effort, teachers may achieve distinction while strengthening their content knowledge and mastering new approaches to classroom instruction.
National Board Certification concentrates education reform in the classroom-where teaching and learning takes place. National Board Certification is a demonstration of a teacher's practice as measured against high and rigorous standards.

We congratulate those who have already been successful!

National Board Certification, offered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), is a way to recognize the accomplished teaching that is occurring in Louisiana’s classrooms. The certification process is based on high and rigorous standards that evaluate teaching practice through performance-based assessments; the ultimate result is improved performance and achievement for Louisiana’s students.

Since 1998, Louisiana Legislature has awarded a $5,000 salary supplement to NBCTs for the
ten-year life of the certificate. Teachers must remain employed by a public school district to receive the supplement.   Zachary Community Schools awards an additional $1,500 salary supplement to NBCT’s.
