The Zachary Community School Board voted Monday, August 30, 2010 to hold a November 2 election to authorize the district to sell $40 million of bonds to
fund the contiunation of the Master Plan for the future of Zachary
schools.
If approved, the
district will begin construction on a new 1st and 2nd grade school on the 62 acres
that currently house the new Early Learning Center. Upon completion of that facility,
Northwestern Elementary will become a Kindergarten center. 1st and 2nd grade will
move to the new site. 3rd and 4th grade will move to Zachary Elementary School
which will undergo a significant renovation project including the construction of a
new 30 classroom building and a new cafetorium. 5th and 6th grade will be housed at
Copper Mill Elementary which get new science labs and a new physical education gymnasium.
7th and 8th graders will remain at Northwestern Middle School. Zachary High School and Port
Hudson Career Academy will keep their existing configurations with Port Hudson seeing renovations and
additions to increase career and technical program offerings.
