Minutes of the Zachary Community School Board Meeting

January 10, 2002

 

Members Present: Mrs. Coleman, Mr. Davis, Mrs. Horton, Mrs. Kimmell, Dr. Leggett, Mr. Moore, Mrs. Womack, Mrs. Young and Dr. Brady.

The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on January 10, 2002 at the Zachary Community School Board Office.

The Invocation was given by Mr. Davis. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Young.

Roll was taken: 7 Present, 2 Absent (Mr. Snowden & Mrs. Kimmell) Mrs. Kimmell arrived at 7:04

Mrs. Coleman made the motion to approve the minutes of December 27, 2001 and Mrs. Womack seconded it. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS ( 1 Absent)

Dr. Leggett asked the board if he may amend the agenda so he could introduce Mr. Gene Bruner to the board. Mrs. Horton made the motion to amend the agenda and Mrs. Young seconded it.                                        VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS ( 1 Absent)

Dr. Leggett introduced Mr. Gene Bruner to the board and told the board that Mr. Bruner had agreed to head the contract work that the Zachary Community School Board would be involved in. Dr. Leggett told the board that since Mr. Bruner has been a past Zachary Community School Board member he really did not need any introduction. Dr. Leggett said that Mr. Bruner was a "Bull Dog," when it came to work and the board members agreed.

Dr. Leggett explained to the board that each January the board has to elect a new President and Vice President. Mrs. Coleman made the motion to keep Dr. Hal Leggett as President and Mrs. Louise Horton as Vice President. Mrs. Womack seconded it. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS ( 1 Absent)

Dr. Brady gave the Litigation Report and Superintendent Report. He told the board that the lawyers could not attend the meeting and that he would explain what is going on. He told the board that " things are happening quickly," in our efforts to leave the East Baton Rouge Parish school system. He said that Judge Brady had ordered on January 9, for the parties to continue discussing a settlement. Dr. Brady told the board is that what it boils down to is money and that the City Parish Finance Department officials agreed to try to give the parties a true picture of how the tax revenues will flow to Zachary, Baker and East Baton Rouge Parish School Board. Dr. Brady told the board that he has met with the faculty members at Zachary High School to inform them of the current status of the community district and he has been invited to meet with the other Zachary schools.

 

Dr. Leggett told the board that they needed to discuss whether they wanted to change the Zachary School Board meetings from 7:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Mrs. Young stated that she would not be able to attend until 6:15 because of her work. Mrs. Coleman made the motion to change the board meeting time from 7:00 PM to 6:30 PM and Mrs. Horton seconded it.

Dr. Leggett set the time for the work session to be at 8:00 AM and will be open to the public on Saturday, January 12. Dr. Leggett told the board that he wanted to cover the administrative structure, the operating structure and the support services of the schools.

 

Danny Davis stated that the Personnel Committee would meet on January 14 at 6:00 PM and Budget and Finance would meet at 7:30 PM at the school board office.

Mrs. Coleman made the motion to adjourn and Mrs. Horton seconded it. VOTE: 8 YEAS     0 NAYS (1 Absent)

Dr. Glenn Brady, Superintendent
