Members Present: Mr. Davis, Mrs. Horton, Mrs. Kimmell, Dr. Leggett, Mr. Moore, Mr. Snowden, Mrs. Womack, Mrs. Young and Mr. Drake.

The meeting was called to order by Dr. Hal Leggett, President. The Invocation was led by Pete Charlet and the Pledge of Allegiance by Mrs. Young

Mr. Moore made the motion to approve the Minutes of August 29, 2002 special meeting and Mrs. Womack seconded it. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 Absent

Mr. Drake gave his Superintendent Report. He told the board that his number 1 priority was to hire a Business Manager. He has sent letters to 19 parishes and ran an Ad in the Zachary Plainsman and the Morning Advocate. He told the board that the deadline to apply would be September 20, 2002 and he would start interviewing on September 23. His plans are to have a recommendation to the board by October 12, and after he hires the Business Manager he would then hire the Human Resources person. He told the board that he was looking into insurance for employees and board members. Mitzi Gregory, James Castello and Paul Owen is on this committee and also he would recommend Norris Consulting to help us in securing insurance. Mr. Drake told the board that we are now members of the La. School Boards Association and the School Superintendents Association. He told the board that his computer has been updated and the office now has 2 phone lines. He is now setting up committees to help with Transportation, Food Service, Information systems and a letter has been sent to Coca Cola requesting State of the Art Digital Marquee to be put in front of the high school and a new football scoreboard at stadium. He also told the board that he would like a workday for September 28 from 8 till to set up priorities and time lines. He told the board that we need a LOGO and would like it to be a contest involving students and the entire community. The Board and Superintendent would choose the winning LOGO. Mr. Drake said that he has requested a census of Zachary employees from the East Baton Rouge School System and this will allow us to get bids for health insurance. Mr. Drake also said that he has sent out a letter to Mr. Kyle to see if we needed an internal audit and we should receive a letter in a few days informing us.
