Zachary Community School Board

Minutes May 22, 2003

Members Present: Mrs. Coleman, Mr. Davis, Mrs. Horton, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kimmell, Mr. Moore, Mr. Snowden, Mrs. Young and Mr. Drake

Also Present: Stacy Naquin, Board Attorney, Connie Aslin, Board Secretary, Gordon Robertson, Business Manager, Donald Thomas, Personnel Director, Patricia Hosemann, Food Service, Aeneid Mason, Student Support Service, Adonica Duggan, Administrative Assistant and Cathy Black, Director of Technology.

The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on May 22, 2003 at the Zachary School Board Office.

The meeting was called to order by Chip Moore, President of the Board. The Invocation was given by Mr. Dewey Davis and the Pledge of Allegiance by Dr. Harold Leggett.

Roll was taken:      7 Present   2 Absent (Mrs. Womack & Mr. Davis) Mr. Davis arrived at 7:25 PM.

Mrs. Kimmell made the motion to approve the minutes of May 8, 2003 and Mrs. Young seconded the motion. VOTE: 7 YEAS 0 NAYS ( 2 Absent)

Mr. Moore asked for any Public Comment and there was none.

Mr. Drake gave his Superintendent Report. He told the board that the employee reception was a success and he wanted to thank Bank of Zachary, Clinton Bank, Lonny Myles, Eden Logan, Feliciana Bank, American Heritage, Baton Rouge Teachers Credit Union and Fennwood Hills for the donations and help that was given. Mr. Drake told the board that Tuesday, May 27, 2003, they will have a Final Agreement meeting with Sheri Morris, Lonny Myles, Chip Moore and Mr. Drake. We are seeking quotes and bids from Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, Roofing and Mechanics for the District and any local licensed people are encouraged to bid. Mr. Drake said that Zachary is starting a campaign,"Buy Zachary First" and July 1st, 2003 will be our kick off day. Mr. Drake wanted to congratulate Mr. Davis Rayborn for winning the title of America Welding Society District 9, Teacher of the Year Award. Mr. Drake told the board that on June 12, 2003 we would be having a public hearing on the Budget and Property Tax.

Mr. Hubie Owen spoke to the board about the Northwestern Middle Million Dollar Shootout. He told the board that it would be on May 31 and June 1, 2003, from 9 till 6 at the Fennwood Hills Golf Course. The Zachary Lions club will be in charge of collecting money and it will be $5.00 per shot. The last 4 that are still standing will get a chance for the million dollar shot.

Dr. Harold Leggett spoke about the Building Committee and handed out booklets that they had made up. He asked the board to read over the report and when they are ready to meet, the committee would go over the report with them. Mark Johnson thanked everyone that has been involved on that committee and handed out certificates.

Mr. Drake asked the board for approval of the job description and salary schedule for the Maintenance Manager. Mrs. Young made the motion to approve the Maintenance Manager job description and salary schedule and Mrs. Coleman seconded the motion. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS (1 Absent)

Mr. Drake asked the board for approval of the following employees for the Zachary Community School System. Mr. Drake read each name and place of employment.(See Attached List) Mrs. Horton made the motion for approval of the employees and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion.

VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS          (1 Absent)

Mr. Johnson made the motion to table Agenda Item 12, Approval of LEA Applications IDEA Funds, until May 29, 2003, Special Meeting at 6:00 PM and Mrs. Young seconded the motion. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS (1 Absent)

Mrs. Young made the motion to table Agenda Item 13, Approval of Student Assignment (Policy J$CC), until May 29, 2003, Special Meeting at 6:00 PM and Mr. Snowden seconded the motion. VOTE:8 YEAS 0 NAYS (1 Absent)

Mr. Chip Moore announced that there will be a special meeting on May 29, 2003, with the following on the Agenda: Approval of Fiscal Agent Agreement, Approval of LEA Applications IDEA Funds and Approval of Student Assignment Policy.

Mrs. Coleman made the motion to adjourn and Mrs. Young seconded the motion. VOTE:8 YEAS 0 NAYS (1 Absent)
