Zachary School Board Minutes

September 22, 2005

The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on September 22, 2005 at 4700 Main Street.

 

The invocation was given by Adonica Duggan.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Beth Kimmell.

 

ROLL:  Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Kimmell, Mr. Davis, Mr. Benda, and Mr. Dayton.

2 ABSENT    Mr. Snowden & Mrs. Horton

 

MINUTES FOR SEPTEMBER 8, 2005

Mrs. Young moved to approve the minutes for September 8, 2005 and Mr. Davis seconded the motion.

VOTE:  7 YEAS   0 NAYS   2 ABSENT

 

PUBLIC COMMENT – There was none.

 

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Drake reported that schools will be canceled for Friday, September 23 due to Hurricane Rita.  The football game will be played Sunday , September 25, at 3pm. instead of Friday.

 

Mr. Drake thanked the Neighbors Federal Credit Union for hosting the reception for the Teachers of the Year.  Mr. Drake thanked Bethany Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, NC and Carter Oak Day School for their donations.  Also, over 350 books sacks and school supplies have been donated from First Student of Cincinnatti and Trinity Lutheran Church for the displaced students.

 

The high school will have open house on September 26 at 6:30PM.  Northwestern Elementary will have open house on October 3 for Pre K and K and October 4 will be for 1st and 2nd grades at 6:30PM.

 

RECOGNITION OF TEACHERS OF THE YEAR:

Mr. Drake recognized the Teacher of the Year from each school and presented them with a plaque.  The Teacher of the Year at Northwestern Elementary is Patricia Morgan, at Zachary Elementary,  Pamela Washington, at Northwestern Middle, Michelle Powell and at Zachary High, Jason Venable. 

 

RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS ACCEPTED INTO PEOPLE TO PEOPLE WORLD LEADERSHIP FORUM

Mr. Drake recognized Tyler Leiva, Margot Moore and Collin Gordon, students of Northwestern Middle, for being accepted into People to People World Leadership Forum.  Each student was presented with a certificate.

 

RECOGNITION OF FIRST STUDENT TRANSPORTATION/BUS DRIVERS’ VOLUNTEER SERVICES

Mr. Drake recognized the First Student Manager, Beth Carbo and the bus drivers’ that volunteer to pick up people that were stranded in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. Everyone was presented a certificate.

 

PERSONNEL MATTERS

Mr. Benda moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mr. Davis seconded the motion.

VOTE:  7 YEAS   0 NAYS     2 ABSENT   (See Attached List)

 

POLICY – SOLICITATIONS FILE: JK

Mr. Davis moved to table Solicitations Policy, File:JK, at this time and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

VOTE:  7 YEAS   0 NAYS   2 ABSENT

 

UNINSURED MOTORIST INSURANCE

Mrs. Kimmell moved to authorize the Superintendent to sign the required Louisiana uninsured/underinsured motorist form reflecting a selection of rejection of uninsured / underinsured motorist coverage.  This selection is applicable to commercial automobile insurance coverage for the period 10-1-05 to 10-01-06, and Mr. Davis seconded the motion. (See Attached)

VOTE:  7 YEAS   0 NAYS   2 ABSENT

 

STUDENT EXPULSION REVIEW

Mrs. Coleman asked the board if they received the report on the expulsion at Zachary High School.  Everyone received the Expulsion Review.

 

Mrs. Coleman asked the board if they would like a hearing and no one did.
