The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on September 14, 2006 at 4700 Main Street.
The invocation was led by Mrs. Young.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Coleman.

MINUTES FOR AUGUST 24, 2006
Mrs. Young moved to approve the minutes for August 24, 2006 and Mrs. Coleman seconded the motion.
VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT
PUBLIC COMMENT – There was none.
SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Mr. Drake reported that Ms. Bonnie McKowen received a $1000 check from ”r;The First Days of School Foundation.” Mr. Kevin Lemoine has been appointed to serve on the La. High School Redesign Committee. Superintendent Cecil Picard sent a thank you letter for all the things that we have done for the students and teachers who were displaced by both of the hurricanes.
ACCOUNTABILITY- iLEAP RESULTS
Michelle Clayton, Accountability Director, spoke to the board on the iLEAP results. Mrs. Clayton said that adding all of the scores, Zachary is the strongest iLeap District in the state.
RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS
Mr. Drake recognized Philip Hembree, Clark Simcoe and Claire Mashburn, who selected as Hershey’s All-USA Musicians and are among the ”r;Top 100” musicians in the nation. Zachary High School had more people selected for the band portion of the Top 100 than any other school in the country. The board presented them with a certificate.
Mr. Drake recognized Claire Drake, who was selected as outstanding representative at Louisiana Girls State and was among 98 young women from across the country who participated in the 60th Annual American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation Session as a Senator in Washington, D.C. She was also one of the first young women in approximately 50 years sent to represent the State of Louisiana. Claire also represented our state as a participant in the World Scholar Athlete Games in Kingston, Rhode Island. The board presented her with a certificate.
RECOGNITION OF TEACHERS OF THE YEAR:
Mr. Drake recognized the Teacher of the Year from each school and presented them with a plaque. The Teachers of the Year are: Northwestern Elementary - Erin Curry, Zachary Elementary - Jackie Nijoka & Kathleen Bridwell, at Copper Mill Elementary - Jennifer Marquez, at Northwestern Middle - Shannon Milazzo, and Zachary High School - Dr. Carol Price.
PERSONNEL MATTERS
Mrs. Young moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mrs. Coleman seconded the motion.
VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT (See Attached List)
DECLARE TEMPORARY BUILDINGS @ ZES SURPLUS
Mrs. Kimmell moved to declare the temporary buildings at Zachary Elementary School surplus and Mrs. Coleman seconded the motion. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT
TRAVEL REGULATIONS
Mr. Owen moved to approve the Travel Regulations presented by the Finance Office and Mrs. Coleman seconded the motion.
VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT (see attached sheet)
POLICIES
Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve policies, Contracts and Compensation – File GBA, Overtime-File GBAA and Compensation Guidelines/Overtime-File GBAAA and Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.
