ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

MAY 15, 2008   7:00PM

The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on May 15, 2008 at 4700 Main Street, Zachary, La.

The invocation was led by Mrs. Samuel.

The Pledge of Allegiance by Mr. Snowden.

ROLL: Mr. Snowden, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Kelley, Mr. Benda and Mr. Dayton.     1 Absent  (Mrs. Young)

PUBLIC COMMENT – There was none.

MINUTES FOR APRIL 24, 2008

Mr. Dayton moved to approve the minutes for April 24, 2008 and Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.

VOTE:  8 YEAS   0 NAYS   1 ABSENT

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Drake reported that Teddi Page, 5^th grader at Copper Mill was selected for the lead role of Annie in the upcoming production in June at the Shaw Center Theatre.  Kaitlin Page, Teddi’s sister and senior Travis Braud were also cast in the play. Major Patrick Jenkins is home on a two week leave.  ZFest was a success and a big thank you goes to Hubie Owen, who was Chairman.

REPORT OF ACCOUNTABILITY RESULTS

Michelle Clayton spoke to the board on LEAP, iLeap, Iowa and Gee Testing.  She told the board that all of the scores are outstanding.  (See Attached List)

RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS

IOWA, iLEAP and GEE

The board recognized the following students who achieved a perfect score 500.

Louisiana State Rally – Zachary High School Students.

Adam Parker – State Winner – Food Nutrition.  If Adam attends LSU, he will receive a $300.00 activity credit.  He will also receive a $500.00 activity credit at any other state school he attends.

Travis Braud and Jasmine Haynes – Placed Superior in Speech-Interpretive Reading.

Leah  Avellone – Placed first in an art exhibit at the District Literary Rally.  If she chooses to go to Southeastern, she will receive $100.00.

Zachary High School Baseball Team State Champions – This is the second year in a row that the ZHS Baseball Team won State Championship.

RECOGNITION OF 2007-2008 OUTSTANDING SUPPORT EMPLOYEES

The board presented plaques to the 2007-2008 Outstanding Support Employees.

Glenda Dufour – Northwestern Elementary

Roy Armwood – Zachary Elementary

Sally Bumpus – Copper Mill Elementary

Alison Moore – Northwestern Middle

Sandy Walters – Zachary High School

PERSONNEL MATTERS

Mr. Owen moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mr. Benda seconded the motion.

VOTE:  8 YEAS   0 NAYS   1 ABSENT                                      (See Attached List)

LAND PURCHASES

Mr. Swilley moved to purchase 3933 North Main Street for $185,000.00 and Lot # 8 Block B, Northside Subdivision for around $35,000.00 and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

VOTE:  8 YEAS   0 NAYS   1 ABSENT

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT AMENDMENT

Mr. Swilley moved to approve the Construction Project Amendment for Old Northwestern Middle School Gymnasium and Auditorium for Four Million Dollars and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion. (See Attached List)

VOTE:  8 YEAS   0 NAYS   1 ABSENT
