ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

May 22, 2008 7:00PM

The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on May 22, 2008 at 4700 Main Street, Zachary, La.

The invocation was led by Mrs. Rogers.

The Pledge of Allegiance by Mr. Dayton.

ROLL:  Mr. Snowden, Mrs. Young,  Mrs. Samuel, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Kelley, Mr. Benda and Mr. Dayton             1 Absent (Mr. Swilley)

PUBLIC COMMENT – There was none.

MINUTES FOR MAY 15, 2008

Mr. Owen moved to approve the Minutes for May 15, 2008 and Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion. 

VOTE:  8 YEAS    0 NAYS   1 ABSENT

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Drake reported that we are completing our 5^th Year.  Today, was last day for students and tomorrow for teachers.  The schools and office will be closed Monday for Memorial Day.  We have 34 employees that have earned the Perfect Attendance.  Summer School will begin on May 27 through May 26, 2008.  We will begin our 4 day work week on June 2^nd through July 28, 2008.  Thank You to the Students, Teachers, Staff, Parents, the many Volunteers, the Board and the Community for making this year such a success, both academically and athletically.  We couldn’t do it without you!

STUDENT RECOGNITIONS:

2008 LA. Girls State Representatives – Macy Lagarde – Maggie Joiner

2008 LA Boys State Representatives – Adam Drake – Micah Scott

The board handed out certificates.

TEACHER RECOGNITION

Mrs. Ashley Singleton of Zachary Elementary School was selected Teacher of the Year by the Vietnam Veterans of America, La. Council.  The board presented her with a certificate and the Vietnam Veterans of America, La. Council will present her with a plaque on June 14, 2008.

PRINCIPAL RECOGNITION

Mr. Dewey Davis of Copper Mill Elementary was awarded Honorary Membership into Military Order of Purple Heart Chapter 177, Baton Rouge.  Mr. Richard O’Brien, Military Order of Purple Heart, Vice – Commander Chapter 177 presented the award.

STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR THE NATIONAL GUARD & RESERVES

Mr. Kelley moved to adopt the Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserves and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.  

VOTE:  8 YEAS   0 NAYS   0 ABSENT

CSRS UPDATE

Chris Pellegrin of CSRS gave an update on the building plan.

PERSONNEL MATTERS

Mrs. Rogers moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mr. Benda seconded the motion.

VOTE:  8 YEAS   0 NAYS   1 ABSENT                        (See Attached List)

POLICIES

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the following Policies:  Summer School File:IDCA, Home Study Program, File: IDCH, Homebound Instruction File: IDDC, Adult Education File: IDG, Graduation Requirements File:IHF, Testing Program File:II, Attendance File:JB, School Admission File:JBC, Student Absences and Excuses File:JBD, Mrs. Rogers seconded the motion.  

VOTE:   8 YEAS   0 NAYS   1 ABSENT

ARCHITECT FEE SCHEDULE

Mr. Dayton moved to accept the new Architect Fee Schedule, which will be only for new projects and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion.     

VOTE:  8 YEAS   0 NAYS   1 ABSENT

RETIREE VISION & DENTAL COVERAGE

Mrs. Young moved to approve the Retiree Vision & Dental Coverage and Mr. Owen seconded the motion.

VOTE:  8 YEAS   0 NAYS   1 ABSENT
