DECEMBER 17, 2008
The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on December 17, 2008 at 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary, La.
The invocation was led by Mrs. Rogers.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Young.

MINUTES FOR NOVEMBER 13, 2008
Mr. Owen moved to approve the Minutes for November 13, 2008 and Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Mr. Drake reported that the Zachary Community School District will recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of our Zachary High School students in the Sunday Advocate. We had the first Snow Day in the history of our school system on December 11, 2008. Mr. Drake reported that 85 full time employees had Perfect Attendance and each received a check for $100.00. This month the schools raised $7,710.00 for the March of Dimes. This is in addition to the amount collected during Northwestern Middle School’s dress down day. This is the second year the District participated in a food drive with Superior Ford and was a huge success. Mr. Drake reported that Carl Kelley, Jannie Rogers, Sharon Samuel and Gaynell Young have completed the required four hours of training for 2008 Legislative Act 380 of 2008. Letters went out last Thursday explaining the One Call System. It will be tested for the first time on Friday, December 19, 2008 with a Christmas message. The Elementary Schools will have early dismissal on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (December 17, 18, and 19,2009) for Parent Conferences. Christmas Holidays will begin on December 22, 2008 through January 5, 2009 for employees. Students will return on Tuesday, January 6th, 2009.
RECOGNITION OF CHRISTMAS ART CONTEST WINNER
Mr. Drake reported that Gage Bennett, 2nd grade Student at Zachary Elementary won the Christmas Card Contest. The board presented Gage a framed original picture of the Christmas card.
PERSONNEL MATTERS
Mrs. Young moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.

SALE OF SURPLUS HOUSES
Mr. Owen moved to accept the bids on the Surplus Houses and Mrs. Rogers seconded the motion.

LIZZIE SHOWS PROPERTY
Mr. Benda moved to pay $4,916.66 to Jacqueline Marie Shows Bailey for the final settlement of Lot 8, Block B, Northside Subdivision on Ada Street. She is the adopted daughter of Leon Shows and is the final heir to the property. Zachary Community School Board will not attempt to collect any reimbursement of this amount from the previously paid heirs. Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

LAND ACQUISITIONS
Mr. Owen moved to approve the purchase of Carrie Stewart’s property Lots 1,2,3,4, 5 and 6 of Block C in the Northside Subdivision on Ada Street, Zachary, La., together with a strip of land on north side of Block C 38’wide by 639’ long for $200,000.00; and purchase Lot 2 of Block B Northside Subdivision for $65,000.00 on Ada Street, Zachary, La. Mr. Kelley seconded the motion.
VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT
Mr. Owen moved to approve the posting bonds, one for $850.00 for Frances Self and $500.00 for Grace James concerning property located on Lot 5 Block B Northside Subdivision. This would enable the school board to move forward with this property purchase pending legal and ethical research. Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve File:IHAD – Parent Conferences Policy and File:JB – Attendance Policy. Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.
