May 14, 2009
The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on May 14, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary, La.
The invocation was led by Dewey Davis.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Gaynell Young.
ROLL: Mrs. Young, Mrs. Samuel, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Kelley, Mr. Benda and Mr. Dayton 2 Absent - Mr. Swilley & Mr. Snowden
PUBLIC COMMENT - There was none.
MINUTES FOR APRIL 23, 2009
Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the Minutes for April 23, 2009 with the correction of Emily Flanders as finalist for the DEMCO Writing Contest and Mrs. Young seconded the motion.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Mr. Drake reported that the 2009 Zachary High School Graduation was held Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Zachary High School Baseball State 4A tournament started today in Shreveport, La. at Captain Field. Zachary is playing Bell Chase at 4:00 p.m. Zachary will play the winner of the Sam Houston/Eunice Game, Friday at 7:00 p.m. The State of Louisiana Department of Education, Paul Pastorek, State Superintendent of Education recognizes the following schools: Copper Mill Elementary School based on an increase in their School Performance Score for 2007 to 2008. Copper Mill has been designated a school of Exemplary Academic Growth. Northwestern Middle School based on an increase in their School Performance Score from 2007 to 2008 has been designated a school of Recognized Academic Growth. Zachary High School, based on an increase in their School Performance Score for 2007 to 2008 has been designated a school of Recognized Academic Growth. Mr. Drake handed out flags to each of these schools.
RECOGNITION OF HIGH SCHOOL WELDING OLYMPICS
Zachary High School Welding Olympics members are:
Brandon Sumerall, Bobby Tate, Tate McBeth, John Thompson, Brandon Hives and Ryan Herman. Out of 31 schools and 106 overall welders, Zachary High School place 1st in ”r;t joint” and 2nd in ”r;v groove”. Individual awards went to John Thompson, 3rd in ”r;t joint and Tate McBeth, 2nd in ”r;t joint”. Ryan Herman and Brandon Hives made 100% on x-ray welds.

Margaret Atkinson and her students’ traveled to Lafayette during the week of Easter break to experience this program. The following students received certificates:

Mr. Drake told the board that he would like to have at each board meeting an Agenda Item named ”r;Beyond the Call of Duty”. Tonight he would like to honor Margaret Atkinson and present her with a certificate.

Mr. Dayton moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion.

ADVERTISE FOR KITCHEN EQUIPMENT AT ZACHARY ELEMENTARY, ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL AND PORT HUDSON CAREER ACADEMY
Mrs. Samuel moved to advertise for kitchen equipment at Zachary Elementary, Zachary High School and Port Hudson Career Academy and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.
