ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

JANUARY 14, 2010

The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on January 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary, La.

The invocation was led by Mrs. Samuel.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Swilley.

ROLL:  Mr. Owen, Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Kelley,

and Mr. Benda.     2 Absent:  Mr. Snowden and Mr. Dayton

PUBLIC COMMENT - There was none.

MINUTES FOR DECEMBER 10, 2009

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the minutes for December 10, 2009, and Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.

VOTE:   7 YEAS   0 NAYS    2 ABSENT

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Drake reported that one student from each school along with one student and their principal will be honored during a luncheon, Friday, January 22, 2010, with “Raising Grades with Raising Canes.”  This will be a Grade Improvement Incentive Program for our district.  Jesse Cassard, Zachary High School Head Baseball Coach, was presented the National Region Coach of the Year for District 6 by the American Baseball Coaches Association.  The association has a coach of the year committee consisting of eight individuals, one for each region.  Some of the criteria consist of wins-losses, community service, team GPA, percentage of student athletes who attend college and membership in the ABCA for more than three years.  The board presented Coach Jesse Cassard with a certificate.  The District will be closed, Monday, January 18, 2010, in observance of Martin Luther King’s Birthday.  There will be a Martin Luther King march from Zachary City Hall to the New Pilgrim Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m. on January 18, 2010.

PERSONNEL MATTERS

Mrs. Young moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.

2010 - 2011 ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL CALENDAR

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the 2010 - 2011 Zachary Community School Calendar and Mrs. Rogers seconded the motion.

Mrs.Young stepped out of board meeting at 7:13 p.m.

DRAINAGE AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF ZACHARY FOR THE EARLY LEARNING CENTER

Mr. Benda moved to approve the Drainage Agreement with the City of Zachary for the Early Learning Center and the school board will pay 44% of the cost or $150,000 whichever is the less and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion.

COPPER MILL SERVITUDE

Mr. Benda moved to approve the sale of the property back to Copper Mill for the price of $100.00 subject to maintenance restrictions by the owner of Tract Y-1 to be Y-1-A and a drainage servitude in favor of Zachary Community School System and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion.

Mrs. Young returned to board meeting at 7:15 p.m.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Finance Committee - Mr. Benda told the board that they met on January 14, 2010, at 5:30 p.m.  (See Notes Attached)

COMMITTEE MEETINGS

Facilities Meeting will be on January 26, 2010, at 5:30 p.m. at the Zachary High School Academic Athletic Center.
