ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

JANUARY 28, 2010

The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on January 28, 2010 at the Zachary High School Academic Athletic Center.

The invocation was led by Mrs. Rogers.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by the Eagle Scout troops 46 and 472.

ROLL:  Mr. Owen, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Kelley, Mr. Benda, and Mr. Dayton.     2 Absent - Mr. Swilley & Mr. Snowden

MINUTES FOR JANUARY 14, 2010

Mrs. Kelley moved to approve the minutes for January 14, 2010, and Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

VOTE:  7 YEAS    0 NAYS     2 ABSENT

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Drake reported that in 2003 we had four schools and now in 2010 we have six schools.  Our school system is growing with students, teachers and employees.   

Mr. Drake reported that testing will begin February 8 through March 12, 2010.  The schools will be performing English Language Development Assessment (ELDA), and LEAP Alternate Assessment 1 (LAA1).  Senior Retest on GEE - ELA/Math/Science and Social Studies for those needing to graduate will be on February 8^th through March 12, 1010.

RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS OF THE YEAR

The board recognized the following students for Student of the Year:

Wyatt Barbe and Ashley Johnson - Northwestern Elementary

Caroline Fontenot - Zachary Elementary

Julia Coreil - Copper Mill Elementary

Kristina Bynum - Northwestern Middle School

Margot Moore - Zachary High School

Lauren Brewer - Port Hudson Career Academy

The board presented each student with a plaque.

RECOGNITION OF EAGLE SCOUTS

The board recognized the following Eagle Scouts:

BSA Troop 472 (Chartered by Plains Presbyterian Church) - Scoutmaster - Mr. Gathright

David Myers, Joshua Nzewi, Walter Godbee, and Joshua Gathrigt

BSA Troop 46 (Chartered by St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church) - Scoutmaster - Mr. Buhler

Nick Maxey, Mark Maxey, Richard Wilkinson and Christopher Antoine

Each Eagle Scout was presented a certificate from the board.

RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL BOARD TEACHER CERTIFICATION

The board recognized Megan Noel of Zachary Elementary and Kathy Conerly of Zachary High School for being rewarded with their Natuibal Board Certification this year.  Also the board recognized Catherine Glover of Northwestern Middle school for renewing her Board Certification this year.  Each teacher received a plaque from the board.

SEWER UPGRADE AGREEMENT ADDENDUM

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the Sewer Upgrade Agreement Addendum and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

VOTE:  7 YEAS        0 NAYS       2 ABSENT

CHECK CARE SYSTEM

Mr. Benda moved to approve the Check Care System Contract and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion. (See Attached)

VOTE:   7 YEAS      0 NAYS      2 ABSENT

POLICIES

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the following policies, File: DFL Investments, File: DJED Bids and Quotations; File: EBBA Fire Prevention; File: ID Curriculum; File: IDDE Student Driver Training; File JGB School Wellness; File: JR Student Records and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

VOTE:  7 YEAS   0 NAYS   2 ABSENT

Mr. Dayton moved to approve the Committee Appointment and Mr. Benda seconded the motion.     (See Attached)
