ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES
FEBRUARY 25, 2010
The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on February 25, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary, La.
The invocation was led by Mrs. Samuel.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Owen.
ROLL: Mr. Owen, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Kelley, Mr. Benda and Mr. Dayton ; 2 Absent ( Mr. Snowden and Mrs. Young)
PUBLIC COMMENT - There was none.
MINUTES FOR JANUARY 28, 2010
Mr. Dayton moved to approve the minutes for January 28, 2010, and Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Mr. Drake reported that Zachary High School Evening with the Arts is tonight. The girls track team at the high school is State Track Champion. Michelle Clayton is the winner of the 2010 Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana’s Champion for Children award. Presentation of awards will be during the “Kids Are Worth It!” Conference, Champions for Children Luncheon, Tuesday, March 2nd from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Astor Crown Plaza in New Orleans. Zachary Community School Board Retreat will be held at the Old Centenary Inn in Jackson, La., on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. and will adjourn around 3:00 p.m. on February 27, 2010.
RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS
The board recognized Mrs. Nezianya, Pre-K Class for winning the Kleinpeter Farms Dairy Contest “Name the Calf.” The class named the calf Sweetie Pie. The board presented a certificate to each student.
Gabrielle Potapenko of Zachary Elementary won 3rd place on her painting the “Brown Pelican,” in the K-4 category at the 2010 Louisiana School Board Association’s Art Contest All art work will be displayed during the 2010 LSBA Convention in Monroe, La., on March 4-6, 2010.
RECOGNITION OF TEACHERS
The following Pre-K Teachers presented at the Pre-K/Kindergarten State Conference:
Michelle Auer, Sheri Broussard, Charissa Dennis, Della Favlaloro, Tonja Granville, Ternisha Hamilton, Jill Haney, Michele Hebert, Kay Mestayer, Aimee Morrison, Lettimarie Nesianya, Rachel Robertson, Ashley Smith and Ellen St. Romain. The board presented them with a certificate. A brief description of the presentation was give by Ellen St. Romain and Sherri Broussard.
BEYOND THE “CALL OF DUTY”
Mr. Drake recognized Gwendolyn Longmire and Yolonda Williams of the school board office for their outstanding work that they do. The board presented them with a certificate.
PERSONNEL MATTERS
Mr. Swilley moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mrs. Rogers seconded the motion.
There was no public comment.
VOTE: 7 YEAS 0 NAYS 2 ABSENT
Mr. Dayton had to leave at 7:40 p.m.
VISITOR SIDE RESTROOM - CONCESSION STAND BUILDING
Mr. Swilley moved to approve the Visitor Side Restroom - Concession Stand Building budget for $225,000.00 and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion. There was no public comment.

ZCSB ATTENDANCE OF NSBA
Mrs. Samuel moved to approve five School Board Members and Mr. Drake to attend the out of state NSBA Convention in Chicago, Illinois on April 10-12, 2010, and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion. There was no public comment.
VOTE: 6 YEAS 0 NAYS 3 ABSENT
STUDENT EXPULSION REVIEW
Mr. Owen asked the board members if they received the Student Expulsion Packet. All Board Members acknowledged receipt and had reviewed information provided. Mr. Owen asked if anyone wanted to make a motion for a Review. No motion was made.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Athletic Committee - Carl Kelley reported that the Athletic Committee met at 5:00 p.m. today. (See Attached Notes)
