The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on May 6, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary, La.
The invocation was led by Sharon Samuel
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Eagle Scout Daniel E. Clesi
ROLL: Mr. Owen, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Kelley, and Mr. Benda. 3 ABSENT (Mr. Snowden, Mrs. Young and Mr. Dayton)
MINUTES FOR APRIL 22, 2010
Mrs. Rogers moved to approve the minutes for April 22, 2010, and Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.
There was no public comment.

Mr. Dayton arrived at 7:09 p.m.
SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Mr. Drake congratulated Hubie Owen on Citizen of the Year. Mr. Drake reported that 15 students received athletic scholarships from Zachary High School. Girls and Boys Power Lifting are State Champions. Eight members of the ZHS Track Team have qualified for the State Meet at LSU on Saturday, May 8, 2010. The ZHS Girls Basketball Team made it to the playoffs. The ZHS Baseball Team are District Champs. The Boys Golf Team placed 2nd in Regional’s. The ZHS Girls and Boys Soccer Teams made it to playoffs. The Welding Team placed 2nd in Open V-Grove. And Brandon Hives place 3rd Place in Open V-Grove and Matthew Miller placed 3rd Place - Fillet. They received a trophy, a scholarship to the ABC Training Center and a $100.00 gift card to Cabalas.
RECOGNITION OF 2009-2010 OUTSTANDING SCHOOL SUPPORT EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR
The board recognized the 2009-2010 Outstanding School Support Employees of the Year. The School Support Employees are: Rosalyn Royal, Northwestern Elementary, Kimberly Heikes, Zachary Elementary, Melissa Borg, Copper Mill Elementary School, Russell Parker, Northwestern Middle School, Shannon Beadle, Zachary High School and Katherine Patterson, Port Hudson Career Academy. The board presented them with plaques.
RECOGNITIOM OF ARTWORK WINNES FOR PROFESSIONAL WOMEN OF ZACHARY
First Grade Winners: Kaydi Vance for the PWZ Logo and Taylor Palmer for the artwork that will go on the PWZ t-shirts. The students were presented with certificates.
RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS
The board recognized the Tickfaw State Park Art Contest Winners:
First Place: Cody Eiswroth; Kindergarten, Northwestern Elementary
Second Place: Brennan Drury; 1st grade, Northwestern Elementary
Third Place: McKinley Mathis; 1st grade, Northwestern Elementary
Second Place: Lauren Rebecca Thompson; 3rd grade, Zachary Elementary
First Place: Matthew Warrington; 5th grade, Copper Mill Elementary
Honorable Mention at Zachary Elementary: Madelyn Beard, Misterie Wilkerson, Keaton Williams, Peyton Jarreau, Jayden Williams, Desmond Honore, Ryan Teekel and Jade Nesbity. Northwestern Elementary: Cole Paxton, Jordan Pinkney, Wyatt Barbe, Beau Autery, Alex Manogin, Malia Washington and Gianna Square. Copper Mill Elementary: Katie Hostetler, Kyle Hostetler, Hailey Key, Macie Pampell, Kyla D’Arensbourg and Jared Tanner. The board presented each one with a certificate.
RECOGNITION OF EAGLE SCOUTS
The board recognized the following Eagle Scouts: Alexander D. Antoine and Daniel E. Clesi. They are members of the Boy Scout Troop 46 at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church. The board presented each one with a certificate.
RECOGNITION OF RECIPIENT OF THE MURIEL GREEN AWARD
Ms. Lisa Redmon was recognized and presented with a certificate in recognition of her receipt of the Muriel Green Award. Ms. Redmon gave a brief presentation on her teaching methods.
PRESENTATION ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL INTERACT CLUB, 2010 YEAR IN REVIEW
Ms. Kim Littles, Interact Sponsor was presented with a certificate in recognition of her involvement and sponsorship of the Interact Club. Ms. Littles gave a brief presentation on the 2010 year in review.
RECOGNITION OF RETIRING EMPLOYEES
The following Retiring Employees were recognized by the board:

Victor Honeysette, ROTC at Zachary High School
Sharon Campbell, Teacher at Northwestern Middle School
Barbara Carter, Teacher at Zachary Elementary School
Charlotte Williams, Paraprofessional, Northwestern Elementary School
BEYOND THE “CALL OF DUTY”
The board recognized Misty Cook, Nita Kidd and Rose Kennedy for beyond the “Call of Duty”. Ms. Cook, Ms. Kidd and Ms. Kennedy work in the Business Department in the School Board Office. They were presented certificates for their outstanding work.

Mr. Dayton moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mr. Benda seconded the motion.

Mr. Kelley moved to approve the bathroom trailer for surplus and Mr. Benda seconded the motion.

FURNITURE, FIXTURE AND EQUIPMENT (FEE) PACKAGE FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD OFFICE
Mr. Benda moved to approve the bid for the FFE package for the School Board Office with Contract Furniture Group for $166,142.53 and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

FURNITURE FIXTURE AND EQUIPMENT (FFE) PACKAGE FOR THE EARLY LEARNING CENTER
Mr. Dayton moved to approve the bid for the FEE package for the Early Learning Center with Lakeshore Learning for Group I at $107,443.60 and Frost Barber for Group II at $32,425.00 and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion.
