ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES
September 23, 2010
The regular meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on September 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, La.
The invocation was led by Mrs. Young.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Eagle Scout, Andrew Delatte.
ROLL CALL: Mr. Owen, Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Kelley, Mr. Benda and Mr. Dayton ABSENT: (Mr. Snowden)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM SEPTEMBER 9, 2010
Mr. Dayton moved to approve the minutes from September 9, 2010 and Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

SUPERTINDENT REPORT
Mr. Drake reported that the Zachary High School Football Team will play away at Alexandria on Friday night. Tammy Wood and several counselors from Zachary attending the Louisiana Counseling Association 2010 conference in New Orleans this past Monday. The 3 hour presentation was on the beginning stages of implementing JTCC. The Zachary Community School District will be one of only 15 school districts in the United States participating in a program to allow student designed and owned experiments to fly aboard what is currently the final scheduled flight of the United States Space Shuttle, the Flight of Endeavour on STS-134 currently set for launch on February 26, 2011. The LA High School Association just conducted a Audit on the District’s Athletic Department and found no findings in its Audit. On September 22, 2010 we had a Ground Breaking for the 9th Grade Academy. The Zachary’s Development Committee visited Zachary on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 and had a meeting at the Zachary Community School Board Office. Those attending were Stephen Moret, Secretary LA Dept. of Economic. Zachary was one of twelve cities chosen by LED to be identified as a Development Ready Community.
RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS
The board presented a certificate to Andrew Delatte for earning his Eagle Scout Badge. Also, the board presented certificates to Perri Prevost and Nick Maxey for winning the National Championship AAU Weight Lifters.
SCIENCE TEACHERS PRESENTATION
Daketa Green presented a power point presentation on her trip to Mexico over the summer. She told everyone that she learned a lot and she is having fun sharing it with her students. Margaret Atkinson presented a power point presentation on her trip to Germany. She talked about the different places she went to and about the Holocaust. The board presented Daketa Green and Margaret Atkinson with certificates.

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the following Policies:

COMMITTEE MEETINGS – Education Committee Meeting on October 28, 2010 at 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Benda moved to call a Special Board Meeting at 6:00 p.m. on September 30, 2010 to approve Pupil Progression and to cancel October 14, 2010 Board Meeting and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.
