ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

December 2, 2010

 

The regular board meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on December 2, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street.

 

The invocation was led by Mrs. Samuel.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Young.

 

ROLL CALL:  Mr. Owen, Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. Rogers and Mr. Dayton.   ABSENT:  Mr. Snowden, Mr. Kelley and Mr. Benda

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 11, 2010 BOARD MEETING

Mr. Swilley moved to approve the minutes from November 11, 2010 Board Meeting and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

SUPERINTENDNET REPORT

Mr. Drake reported that the Early Learning Center ribbon cutting will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.  Northwestern Elementary School had 6 students in the Public Service Announcement put on by the students in Ms. Debby Lowery’s class at ZHS.  These 6 students were in the filming that took place on November 29, 2010.  April Smith, Holly Marachiafava, Kristy Gilpin and Melanie Alexander teachers from Zachary Elementary are the newest National Board Certified Teachers.   Student Space flight Experiment Program winner is Circe Bridges and her 5th grade group at Copper Mill Elementary.  We will announce their findings at the January 13, 2011 Board Meeting.  Brandi McNabb of Zachary Elementary and Angie Cassard of the Early Learning Center did presentation at the National Council for Teachers of English (NCTE) was held at the National Conference in Orlando this past week. Megan LaBorde and Bianca Deliberto have each won QSM grants, which will each be used to purchase math materials.  Zachary High School Athletics Boys Basketball and Wrestling is now underway in the new gym.

 

CHRISTMAS CARD CONTEST WINNER - KENNEDY PARKER

Mr. Drake introduced Kennedy Parker, 2nd Grader at Zachary Elementary, as the Christmas Card Contest Winner. The board presented Kennedy a framed original picture of the Christmas card.

 

BEYOND THE "CALL OF DUTY"

Mr. Drake recognized Brenda Jackson for all the hard work that she is doing as a bus driver.

The board presented her with a certificate.

 

RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS

The board recognized Caleb Champagne, a member of the Zachary High School Swim Team, for finishing first in the 50 freestyle with a personal best time of 21.66 seconds. The Swim Team Coach, Ms. McGee told the board how proud she was of Caleb. The board presented him with a certificate.

 

RECOGNITION OF TEACHERS

The board recognized the National Association Education Young Children Teachers:  Michele Hebert, Renee Dennis, Lettimarie Nezianya, and Tonya Granville.  The board presented each teacher with a certificate

 

COASTAL ROOTS PROGRAM

Kristy Gilpin and Breigh Rainey presented a power point presentation on the Coastal Roots Program that they are involved in with the children at Zachary Elementary.

 

ESSIE BECK AWARD

Breigh Rainey recently was awarded the Louisiana Science Teachers’ Association Essie Beck Rising Star award at the LSTA’s annual conference in Monroe. This prestigious award is given to a teacher who has taught 5 or less years.  The board presented Breigh with a certificate.

 

PERSONNEL MATTERS

Mr. Dayton moved to approve Personnel Matters and Mrs. Young seconded the motion.

2011 BOARD MEETING DATES

Mrs. Young moved to approve the 2011 Board Meeting Dates and Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion. (See Attached)

SURPLUS PROPERTY

Mr. Robertson told the board that the old Early Learning Center has desk, chairs and book cases that he is declaring Surplus Property.  The teachers will go through the furniture and what is left will be donated to St. Helena Parish Schools.

Mr. Dayton moved to approve the Surplus Property from the old Early Learning Center and Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

RECOGNITION OF SERVICE-OUTGOING BOARD MEMBERS

Mrs. Young moved to table the Recognition of Service-Outgoing Board Members and Mrs. Rogers seconded the motion.
