The board meeting of the Zachary Community School Board was held on January 27, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, La.
The invocation was led by Carl Kelley.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jannie Rogers
ROLL CALL:
Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mr. Mackie, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Kelley, Mr. Dykes and Mr. Dayton 1 Absent ( Mr. Owen)
MINUTES FROM JANUARY 13, 2011
Mr. Dayton moved to approve the minutes from January 13, 2011 and Mrs. Rogers seconded the motion.
There was no public comment.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Mr. Drake reported that the State has finished with a review of our Food Service Department. Helen Folks, Supervisor of Food Service told the board that the state did a review of the food service department and they found everything in high standards. Mr. Drake told the board that the 2010-2011 Student of the Year will be hosted by the Zachary Community School Board on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 beginning at 8:00 a.m. LegendZ, Community Leadership Night will be on February 10, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fellowship Church. Jeffery Marx will be guest speaker. Mr. Drake reported that he will be guest speaker on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Don’s Seafood in Denham Springs at 6:00 p.m. He will speak on the Zachary Community Schools and how we continued to achieve #1 in the state. Family Science Night is tonight.
LITERACY COUNCIL COALITION PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Mrs. Debby Lowery told the board that Zachary High School has won the Public Service two years in a row. The students that participated in the Public Service Announcement were:
Team One: Danielle Greer, Devon Othmer
Team Two: Bria Williams and Chelse Jones
Each student received a certificate.
ZACHARY ELEMENTARY SPELLING BEE TOP SPELLERS
The board recognized the top Spelling Bee Spellers of Zachary Elementary. The Second Grade winner is Sean Constantine and the Third Grade winner is Katy Knecht.
The board presented them with a certificate.
2010 NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHERS
The board recognized the following teachers for being rewarded with their National Board Certification this year:
Northwestern Elementary
Leagh Carloton – Generalist/Early Childhood
Tamara Johnson – Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle
Zachary Elementary
Melanie Alexander – Music/Early and Middle Childhood
Kristy Gilpin – Generalist/Middle Childhood
Holly Marchiafava – Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood
April Smith – Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood
Zachary High
Virginia Bell – Exceptional Needs Specialists/Early Childhood through Young Adulthood
Each teacher received a plaque from the board.
RECOGNITION OF SGT. MIKE MILTON # 1 RECRUITER FOR LOUISIANA NATIONAL GUARD
The board recognized Sgt. Mike Milton for being the Louisiana National Guard # 1 Recruiter for the Nation. The board presented him with a certificate.
2011-2012 ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL CALENDAR
Mrs. Young moved to approve the 2011-2012 Zachary Community School Calendar and Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.
There was no public comment.

2011 APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES
The board appointed the 2011 Appointment of Committees. Mr. Swilley noted that on the Facilities Committee to list Scott Devillier or his designee and Buster Smelley or his designee.

APPOINTMENT OF EDUCATION FACILITIES COMMITTEE
Mr. Dayton moved to appoint Hubie Owen as Chairman and Carl Kelley, Jannie Rogers, Kenneth Mackie and Donnie Dykes to serve on the Education Facilities Committee four years (2011-2015), and Mr. Kelley seconded the motion.
There was no public comment.
VOTE: 8 YES 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Mr. Swilley told the board that the Facilities Committee had a meeting at 5:00 p.m. and they went over the list of things that need to be done.
