ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

JANUARY 12, 2012

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on January 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

The invocation was led by David Dayton.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Scott Swilley.

ROLL CALL:  Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mr. Mackie, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Dykes, and Mr. Dayton.   1 Absent (Mr. Kelley)

MINUTES FROM DECEMBER 8, 2011

Mr. Mackie moved to approve the minutes from the December 8, 2011 meeting.  Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Drake reported that the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee will be celebrating the Annual Candlelight March on January 16, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., at Zachary City Hall.  On Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at 9 a.m. the School Board will host a tour for the Mayor and other local and regional elected officials.  The purpose is to show how the board has used its bond money to enhance learning through new academic spaces and to see the great academic opportunities which exist in our schools.  Zachary High School Girls Basketball Team is partnering with Central High School for our Geaux Pink Breast Cancer Basketball Game.  Zachary Elementary Students will eat out of their garden that they planted tomorrow.  They have lettuce, radishes and green onions growing.

PRESENTATION BY BIANCA DELIBERTO - LA. SCIENCE TEACHER ASSOCIATION - ELEMENTARY SCIENCE TEACHER OF THE YEAR - ZACHARY ELEMENTARY

Bianca Deliberto, Third Grade Teacher at Zachary Elementary, was named the Louisiana Science Teachers Association’s “Outstanding Elementary Science Teacher of the Year” in New Orleans at the National Science Teachers Association’s Regional Conference.  Bianca was a presenter at the conference.  The board presented Bianca with a certificate.

POLICIES

Mrs. Young moved to approve the following Policies:  File DJE – Purchasing; File: DJED – Bids and Quotations; File: GBN - Dismissal of Employees; File: GBRA  Employee Conduct; File: IDDF- Education of Students with Exceptionalities; File: II – Testing Program and File: DJD - Expense Reimbursement.  Mr. Swilley seconded the motion

CHANGE ORDER FOR ZACHARY EARLY LEARNING CENTER

Mr. Swilley moved to approve a change order for a Davis Bacon Wage Adjustment, for $606,144.10, for the Zachary Early Learning Center, as conditions of the Bond funding.  Mrs. Rogers seconded the motion.

VOTE:        8 YEAS      0 NAYS    1 ABSENT

ELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD OFFICERS

Mrs. Samuel opened the floor for nominations for School Board President.

Mr. Owen nominated to appoint Jannie Rogers as President and there was no other nominations and is a vote of acclimation.  Mrs. Jannie Rogers will be President.

Mrs. Samuel opened the floor for nominations for School Board Vice President.

Mr. Owen nominated Mrs. Gaynell Young as Vice President and there were no other nominations and is a vote of acclimation.  Mrs. Gaynell Young will be Vice President.

Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

Mr. Swilley told the board that the Facilities Committee met on January 11, 2012.  (See Attached Notes)
