ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

JANUARY 26, 2012

 

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on January 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

 

The Invocation was led by Mrs. Samuel.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Kelley.

 

ROLL CALL:  Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Samuel Mr. Mackie, Mr. Owen, Mr. Kelley, and Mr. Dayton.  2 Absent (Mr. Swilley and Mr. Dykes)   

                      

MINUTES FROM JANUARY 12, 2012

 

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the minutes from the January 12, 2012 meeting.  Mr. Mackie seconded the motion.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

 

Mr. Drake reported that the play, Grease, is being presented at Northwestern Middle School on January 25 – 27, 2012.  Zachary Elementary held its Spelling Bee on Monday and Tuesday, January 23-24, 2012.  Deon Sumer of the Zachary High School Beta Club was elected Vice President at the State Beta Club Convention. Mrs. Raziano was elected State Beta Club Sponsor of the Year. The Zachary High School Boys and Girls Basketball Team ranked in the State top ten.  The Zachary High School Boys Soccer Team won the District Championship and the Bronco Belles won the State Champions in the Varsity High Kick Competition.  Zachary High School had a GPA class competition for the first semester and the 12th grade class won with a 2.89 overall GPA.  Zachary High School will have a Straight “A” Breakfast for 70 students on Friday, January 27, 2012.  Also next week, ZHS will have a Perfect Attendance Breakfast and Straight A Lunch, for 9th and 10th grade, and A-B Honor Roll Breakfast for the 11th and 12th grade A-B Honor Roll Breakfast.  The District Bus Tour was held on January 17, 2012 and was a great success.  The Leadership North group will hold its meeting on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at the school board office.  Mr. Mackie will participate from the board.

 

RECOGNITION OF ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL Z - STAR STUDENTS

 

The board recognized Mrs. Lowery’s Z-Star class from Zachary High School.   Mrs. Lowery told the board that the Z-Star Class is made up of students that want to become teachers.  When they complete her class they will have earned 3 college credits.  The board presented each student with a certificate.

 

GAYNELL YOUNG - RECOMMENDATION LSBA SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER OF THE YEAR 2012

 

Mr. Kelley moved to nominate Gaynell Young for the recommendation of Louisiana School Board Association’s School Board Member of the Year 2012.  Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

 

There was no public comment.

 

VOTE:   7 YEAS   0 NAYS   2 ABSENT

 

ADOPT BUDGET FOR ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL BAND ROOM/CAFETERIA RENOVATIONS

 

Mrs. Samuel moved to adopt the budget for the Zachary High School Board Room/Cafeteria Renovations for $1,485,000.00.  Mrs. Young seconded the motion.

 

There was no public comment.

Mr. Owen moved to approve the 2012 Appointment of Committees.  Mr. Kelley seconded the motion.  (See Attached)

Mr. Drake told everyone that Adonica and Daniel Duggan’s house burned down on January 25, 2012.  Please keep the Duggan family in your prayers.
