ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

MAY 10, 2012

 

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on May 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

 

The Invocation was led by Mr. Mackie.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Samuel.

 

ROLL CALL:  Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mr. Mackie, Mr. Owen, Mr. Dykes, Mr. Kelley and Mr. Dayton.   

                

MINUTES FROM APRIL 12, 2012

 

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the minutes from the April 26, 2012 meeting.  Mr. Dykes  seconded the motion.

 

There was no public comment.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

 

Mr. Drake reported that Brandi McNabb, Teacher at Zachary Elementary, was elected as the State Vice President of the Louisiana Reading Association.  Bryce Harrell, student at Copper Mill Elementary, was Superintendent of the Day, this past Tuesday.  Congratulations to the Zachary High School Baseball Team.  They have advanced to the Regional round of the State Championship Title.   Zachary High School Drama students, Morgan Dupree, Kaila Kelly, and Tesha Moore earned Superior Ratings at the State Rally.  Also, Taylor Franklin, Kaila Kelly, Milyn Ratcliff, Meghan Starns and Jordan Varnado earned excellent ratings for their One Act performance.  Port Hudson Career Academy will have Graduation on Friday, May 18th, at 6:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church.  Zachary High School will have Graduation on Tuesday, May 22nd, at 6:30 p.m., at Bethany World Prayer Center.  The last day of school for our students will be Tuesday, May 22, 2012. 

 

RECOGNITION OF OUTSTANDING SCHOOL SUPPORT EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR 2012

 

The board recognized the following Outstanding School Support Employee of the Year 2012:

 

Prunella Smith – Zachary Early Learning Center

Rachel D’Arensbourg – Northwestern Elementary School

Brenda Heffner – Zachary Elementary School – Ms. Heffner was unable to attend meeting.

Sondra Burnham – Copper Mill Elementary School

Tanya Powell – Northwestern Middle School

Dianne LeBlanc – Zachary High School

Marie Wiliams – Port Hudson Career Academy.

 

The board presented each one with a plaque and a certificate.

 

RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS

 

ZHS Art Students

 

The Zachary High School Art Teachers, Chloe Aguillard, Megan Buccere, and Mandy Bradley, told the board that Taylor Garig and Morgan Dupree won in the Congressional Art Show.  Taylor won first place and Morgan won second place.  The board presented Taylor, Morgan, Ms. Aguillard, Ms. Buccere, and Ms. Bradley with certificates.

 

ZHS Golf Team

 

Coach Clark Engemann told the board that The Zachary High School Golf Team won the State Championship.  The Golf Team Players are:  Drew Patin, Peyton McCulloch, Bryce Bonin, Jonathan Davis, Chris Beadle, Hunter Campbell, Matthew Chastain, Trey McCleary, and Connor Haynes.  The board presented the Golf Team and Coach Engemann with certificates.

 

ZHS Track State Champions

 

Coach Chris Carrier told the board that the Zachary High School Boys Track Team won 4th place.  Mason Pace won the State Championship in the Javelin and Kenyetta Franklin won the State Championship in the 300 Meter Hurdles.

 

The board presented Mason, Kenyetta and Coach Carrier with certificates.

 

ACCEPT BID ON THE FFE PACKAGE FOR THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

 

Mr. Devillier told the board that Group 1 is for Classroom and Miscellaneous Furniture for the FFE Package for the Visual and Performing Arts Center.  The low bidder for Group 1 is with School Outfitters for $73, 831.00.  Mr. Swilley moved to accept the low bid for Group 1 bid with School Outfitters for $73,831.00 and Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

Mr. Devillier told the board that Group 2 is for Specialized Furniture and Equipment for the FFE Package for the Visual and Performing Arts Center.  The low bidder for Group 2 is with Wenger Corporation for $126,451.00.  Mr. Swilley moved to accept the low bid for Group 2 bid with Wenger Corporation for $126,451.00 and Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

Facilities Committee Meeting to be announced.

Mrs. Rogers announced that we will move the meeting that is scheduled for June 14, 2012 to June 7, 2012.  We need to accept the bid on reroofing the Copper Mill Elementary School at this meeting.
