October 4, 2012
The Zachary Community School Special Board Meeting was held on October 4, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.
The Invocation was led by Sharon Samuel.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by David Dayton.

MINUTES FROM SEPTEMBER 13, 2012 BOARD MEETING
Mr. Swilley moved to approve the minutes from the September 13, 2012 meeting with the correction of changing no to not in the Superintendent Report. Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

AMEND THE AGENDA
Mrs. Rogers asked for someone to make a motion to Amend the Agenda to add Agenda Item 8A for a resolution ordering and calling a special election to be held in the Zachary Community School System, in the Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana, to authorize the renewal of a special tax therein; making application to the State Bond Commission in connection therewith, and providing for other matters in connection therewith.
Mr. Swilley moved to amend the agenda to add the Item 8A resolution ordering and calling a special election. Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Mr. Robertson reported that the Zachary Bronco Football Team will play the Central Wildcats. The Zachary High School choral department under the direction of Jason Bowers and Christina Lewis will be holding a concert on October 11, 2012 at Plains Presbyterian Church at 7:00 p.m.
Zack Von Rosenberg, a Zachary High graduate was honored at recent Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game with the Roberto Clemente Award for public service. Zachary Elementary School raised $3`00.00 for Lake Pontchartrain Elementary in Laplace, La. Zachary High held a recent anti-bullying assembly for the entire student body where State Senator Rick Ward, who represents Zachary in the Louisiana Legislature, talked to the teens about the legislation he ushered through last year strengthening the state's anti-bullying law. All schools in the Zachary Community School District and offices in the Zachary Community School District will be closed on Monday, October 8 in observance of the Columbus Day Holiday. Teachers will return on Tuesday for an in-service day while students return on Wednesday.
GRANTS TO SCHOOLS
Mr. Robertson presented each principal from each school a check. Mr. Watts from Zachary High School received a check for $80,000.00. Mrs. Brian from Northwestern Middle School received a check for $60,000.00. Mr. Davis received a check for $40,000.00 for Copper Elementary and $40,000.00 for Zachary Elementary. Mrs. Marangos from Rollins Place Elementary received a check for $40,000.00. Mrs. Davis from Northwestern Elementary received a check for $40,000.00. Mrs. Myers from The Early Learning Center received a check for $40,000.00. Patrick Jenkins from the Port Hudson Career Academy received a check for $40,000.00.
RESOLUTION
Mr. Robertson read the following Resolution.
A resolution ordering and calling a special election to be held in the Zachary Community School System, in the Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana, to authorize the renewal of a special tax therein; making application to the State Bond Commission in connection therewith; and providing for other matters in connection therewith.
Mr. Swilley moved to approve the resolution. Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the revision for File: GBNA – Reduction of Personnel Policy. Mr. Swilley seconded the motion. (See Attached)

SELECT ROUND 2 APPLICANTS TO BE INTERVIEWED
Mrs. Young told the board that it is time to select the pool of applicants to be interview for Round 2. Out of the 5 applicants the board will each vote on who they would like to interview. The applicants are: Michelle Clayton; Scott Devillier; Patrick Jenkins; Alonzo Luce and Philip Burchfield.
The board members each voted in writing who they wanted to interview.
Mr. Mackie moved to bring back the top three applicants to be interviewed. Mrs. Young seconded the motion. The top three applicants to would be: Scott Devillier; Patrick Jenkins; and Michelle Clayton. Mrs. Rogers asked the board for a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss the following and to allow Board Attorney Ricky McDavid, Personnel Director Yolanda Williams, and Interim Superintendent, Gordon Robertson to attend. Mr. Swilley seconded the motion.
