ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

March 14, 2013

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on March 14, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Invocation was led by Mrs. Rogers.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Dayton

ROLL CALL:  Mrs. Young,  Mrs. Samuel, Mr. Mackie, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Smith, Mr. Dykes, and Mr. Dayton      1 Absent (Mr. Swilley)

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FEBRUARY 28, 2013 BOARD MEETING

Mr. Mackie moved to approve the minutes from the February 28, 2013 Board Meeting.  Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

VOTE:  8 YEAS   0 NAYS  1 ABSENT

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Devillier thanked everyone for coming out tonight.  Phase 1 testing begins on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.  We will have a Testing Pep Rally at Zachary High School tomorrow at 1:45 p.m.

All of this month we are having Professional Development Training with the teachers.  Everyone is enjoying the training.  On March 19, 2013 will be the Zachary High School Spring Plant Sale.  On March 21 - 24, 2013 will be ZFEST at the BREC Park.  On March 21, 2013 we will be having Kindergarten Roundup at Northwestern Elementary.  Spring Break for the teachers and students will be March 25 - April 1, 2013.

RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST

The board recognized Allison Burton as the National Merit Finalist.

The board presented her with a certificate.

RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT FINALISTS

The board recognized Allison Burton, Ikenna Nzewi, Destiny Johnson and Myleka Jefferson and Brandon Deshotel as National Achievement Finalists.

The board presented each student with a certificate.

RECOGNITION OF 2013 LOUISIANA POETRY OUT LOUD WINNER

The board recognized Alexis Granville, student at Zachary High School, as the winner of the 2013 Louisiana Poetry Out Loud.  The board presented her with a certificate.

RECOGNITION OF ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS AND BOYS SOCCER TEAMS

The board recognized the Zachary High School Girls and Boys Soccer Teams.  The board presented each student with a certificate.

2013 - 2014 COMPENSATION PACKAGE

Mr. Dayton moved to approve the 2013 - 2014 Compensation Package.  Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

OUT OF STATE TRAVEL IN APRIL FOR NSBA CONFERENCE IN SAN DIEGO FOR BOARD MEMBERS KENNETH MACKIE, DONNIE DYKES, BOYCE SMITH, GAYNELL YOUNG, AND JANNIE ROGERS

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the out of state travel in April for the NSBA Conference in San Diego for the following board members:  Kenneth Mackie, Donnie Dykes, Boyce Smith, Gaynell Young, and Jannie Rogers.  Mr. Mackie seconded the motion.
