ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

September 26, 2013  Board Meeting

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on September 26, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Invocation was led by Mrs. Samuel.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Rogers.

ROLL CALL:  Mrs. Young, Mrs. Samuel, Mr. Mackie, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, and Mr. Dayton.

3 ABSENT    (Mr. Swilley, Mr. Smith and Mr. Dykes)

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mr. Owen  moved to approve the minutes from the September 6, 2013 Special Board Meeting.  Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

VOTE:   6  YEAS    0 NAYS    3 ABSENT

Mr. Mackie moved to approve the minutes from the September 6, 2013 Academics & Extracurricular Activities Committee.  Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

Mrs. Samuels moved to approve the minutes from the September 12, 2013 Work Shop/Committee Meeting.  Mrs. Rogers seconded the motion.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Devillier thanked everyone for coming.  Mr. Devillier reported that Ariele Altman, Senior at Zachary High School, was named National Achievement Semifinalist in the 50th Annual National Achievement Scholarship program by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation officials.  Kaitlin Maloy and Connor Usie have been named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.  On September 27, 2013 our football team will play Scotlandville at the high school stadium.  On September 27, 2013 our Swim Team will be at Crawfish Aquatics.  On September 28, 2013 the Cross Country Team will run at the Port Hudson Battlefield.  on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, the Finance Committee will meet at school board office at 6:00 p.m.  On October 4th & 5th we will have a Board Retreat at the Old Centenary Inn at Jackson, La.  On Monday, October 14, 2013, all schools and offices will be closed for Fall Holiday.  On Tuesday, October 15, 2013, we will have Parent/Teacher Conference Day.  Debra Toney, from Zachary High School, has been selected as the Recipient of the LAHPERD Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award.  Kathy Conerly was selected the Southwest U.S. Region's National Agriscience Teacher of the year for 2013.

POLICIES

Mrs. Samuel moved to approve the following policies:  File DJD - Expense Reimbursement and File: GBAA - Compensation Guidelines/Over Time.  Mr. Owen seconded the motion.

Mr. Jenkins gave a Facilities Update Report tonight at the Work Session.

Board Retreat Friday, October 4 & Saturday, October 5, 2013, in Jackson, Louisiana.

Technology Meeting to be announced.
