ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

February 18, 2014 Board Meeting

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on February 18, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Invocation was led by Mrs. Young.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Owen.

ROLL CALL:  Mr. Dayton, Mrs. Young,  Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mr. Mackie,  Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Smith,  and Mrs. Avants

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mrs. Young moved to approve the January 23, 2014 Work Session, January 23, 2014 Board Meeting, and the February 4, 2014 Work Shop/Committee Meeting minutes..  Mrs.  Samuel seconded the motion.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Devillier reported that on Saturday, February 22, 2014 the DECA State Conference and District Literary Rally will be held.  Also, the ZHS Track team will be competing in the LHSAA State Championships at LSU.  On February 21 - 22, 2014 the ZHS Wrestling Team will be competing at the State Championships.  Mardi Gras Holidays will be on March 3 - 5, 2014.  On March 21, 2014 will be the Fourth Annual Zachary Time Trials 2014-A Special Olympic Event at the ZHS Track from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Our new ZHS Football Coach David Brewerton is here tonight.  He has served as head football coach and athletic director at Livonia High School for the last 8 years.

RECOGNITION OF THE ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL SWIM TEAM

The Board recognized the Zachary High School Swim Team.  Each student received a certificate.

DELTA KAPPA GAMMA AWARD WINNER - HANNAH PARSONS

Ms. Hannah Parsons, teacher at Zachary Elementary School, was chosen as the Delta Kappa Gamma award winner.  Ms. Parsons received a check for $100.00.

2014-2015 SCHOOL CALENDAR

Mr. Swilley moved to approve the 2014 -2015 School Calendar.  Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.    (See Attached)

BID FOR COPPER MILL ELEMENTARY GYM/CLASSROOMS

Mr. Swilley moved to approve the Bid for Copper Mill Elementary Gym/Classrooms with Stuart and Company  for $4,744,300.00.  Mr. Owen seconded the motion.

BOARD COMMITTEES

Mr. Mackie moved to approve the Board Committees for 2014.  Mr. Smith seconded the motion.    (See Attached)

EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING:

"PROSPECTIVE LITIGATION - LIQUIDATED DAMAGES - ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD V. DEVIER DESIGN BUILD, LLC

Mr. Dayton asked the board for a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss the following and to allow Board Attorney Ricky McDavid, Superintendent Scott Devillier, Patrick Jenkins and Don Simpson to attend.

Mr. Swilley moved to go into Executive Session.  Mrs. Young seconded the motion.

Mrs. Avants seconded the motion.
