ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

JANUARY 19, 2016

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on January 19, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Zachary High School Visual Performing Arts Center, 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Invocation was led by Zachary High School student, Lindsey Scott.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Watkins.

ROLL CALL:  Mrs. Young, Mrs. Fuselier, Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Grice, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Vessel, Mrs. Kimmell, Mrs. Watkins, and Mr. Dayton. 

The meeting began with the Zachary High School 2015-2016 football team filing into the auditorium to a standing ovation to celebrate their achievement as the 2015 5A State Champions.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve the minutes for December 15, 2015 Board Meeting.  Mr. Dayton seconded the motion.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Devillier thanked everyone for attending and announced that a community tour would be conducted Wednesday, January 20^th at Zachary Elementary at 10:00 a.m.  The tour is open to the public.  An invitation was extended to the audience to attend the next board meeting to be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016.  Mr. Devillier announced that the Louisiana School Board Association conference will be February 14-16, 2016 at the Baton Rouge Crowne Plaza.  Mardi Gras Holidays are February 8-10^th; all schools and offices will be closed.

2016-2017 SCHOOL CALENDAR

Mrs. Vessel moved to approve the 2016-2017 School Calendar.  Mrs. Watkins seconded the motion.    (See Attached)

HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION FRAUD REDUCTION

Mr. Dayton moved to approve the Agreement of Use of Property Tax Collections to Fund Exemption Audit Services. Mrs. Vessel seconded the motion.     (See Attached)

RESOLUTION OF OPPOSITION TYPE 1B/LOCAL CHARTER AUTHORIZER(S)

Mrs. Young moved to adopt a Resolution of Opposition Type 1B/Local Charter Authorizer (s).

Mrs. Fuselier seconded the motion.     (See Attached)

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL MEMBERS

Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve Mr. Owen and Mrs. Fuselier as members of the Zachary Economic Development Council.  Mrs. Grice seconded the motion.

RECOGNITION OF ZHS FOOTBALL TEAM

The board recognized Zachary High School 2015 Class 5A State Championship Football Team.

The board presented the players, coaches, statistician, athletic director, principal, assistant principals, chaplain, trainers, managers, physicians, and physical therapist with a certificate.

ELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD OFFICERS

Mr. Owen opened the floor for nominations for School Board President.

Mr. Owen nominated Beth Kimmell for President.  Mrs. Grice seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

Mr. Owen opened the floor for nominations for School Board Vice President.

Mr. Dayton nominated Gaynell Young for Vice President.  Mrs. Fuselier seconded the motion.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS

A Board Retreat will be held February 11, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in the main office training room.
