ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

AUGUST 1, 2017

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on August 1, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Invocation was led by Mrs. Vessel.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Westmoreland.

ROLL CALL:  Mrs. Young, Mrs. Westmoreland, Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Grice, Mrs. Vessel, Mrs. Kimmell, and Mrs. Watkins.  ABSENT:  Mr. Owen & Mr. Dayton.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve the minutes for July 18, 2017 Work Session and Board Meeting.  Mr. Hughes seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

VOTE:     7 YEAS    0 NAYS     2 ABSENT

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Devillier reported teachers will be coming back to school on August 3 and students on August 9.  Mr. Devillier reviewed upcoming dates.  (See Attached)

RECOGNITION OF RETIREES

Plaques were presented to Debra Bacote, for 11 years of service, and June Sykes, for 30 years of service.  The board thanked them for all of their dedication and hard work through the years.

SCIENCE STANDARDS UPDATE

Copper Mill Elementary fifth grade teacher, Sandra Saye, presented a slide show about her travels this summer that were sponsored by a Georgia Pacific grant. She attended Keystone Science School and geology camp and traveled to Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.  Georgia Pacific donated 2 water quality testing kits for her classroom.

POLICIES

Mrs. Grice moved to approve File: JGB – School Wellness and File: DIE – Records Retention, with an amendment to the Time Sheets line from 3 years to 6 years.  Mrs. Kimmell seconded the motion.  (See Attached)

VOTE:  7 YEAS  0 NAYS  2 ABSENT

Mrs. Grice moved to table File DJE- Purchasing and File DJED – Bids & Quotations, until the September 5, 2017 Board Meeting, when the board will look at a resolution implementing a Utilization of Delay on Purchasing and Bids & Quotations.  Mrs. Kimmell seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

VOTE:  7 YEAS   0 NAYS  2 ABSENT

Mrs. Grice moved to table File JGCE – Child Abuse until the September 5, 2017 Board Meeting.  Mr. Hughes seconded the motion.
