ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

March 6, 2018

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on March 6, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Invocation was led by ZHS Student, Caleb Johnson.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by ZHS Student, Kaleigh Carter.

ROLL CALL:  Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Westmoreland, Mrs. Grice, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Vessel, Mrs. Kimmell, Mrs. Watkins, and Mr. Dayton.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve the minutes for February 7, 2017 Work Session and Board Meeting and February 27, 2018 Board Retreat.   Mrs. Vessel seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Devillier announced that on Thursday, March 15, will be Pre K Round Up at Zachary Early Learning Center and on Thursday, March 22, will be Kindergarten Round Up at Northwestern Elementary.  Spring Break will run from March 30 – April 6, 2018.  Students will return to school on April 9, 2018.

RECOGNTION OF DELTA KAPPA GAMMA – FIRST YEAR TEACHER

The board recognized Stacey Watts, Zachary Elementary teacher, as the Delta Kappa Gamma Award Winner.  Delta Kappa Gamma member, Debbie Hodgkins, presented Stacey with a check for $100.00

RECOGNITION OF Z-ED (STAR) STUDENTS

Mrs. Debby Lowery recognized the Z-ED (STAR) Students:

Kolby Matthews, Caleb Johnson, Danielle Hebert, Blayre Madison, Kaleigh Carter, Katie Pedlar, Hallie Russel and Rebecca Day.

GROSVENOR TEACHER FELLOWSHIP TO ANTARCTICA WITH NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC AND LINDBLAD EXPEDITIONS

Mrs. Rhodes told the board that she was selected as a National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellow and travel to Antarctica. The Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Program is a professional development Opportunity for Pre-K-12 educators made possible by a partnership between Lindblad Expeditions and the National Geographic Society.  She is using this experience to support teaching and learning in the Zachary School District

FILE: DFAA INDUSTRIAL TAX EXEMPTIONS

Mrs. Vessel moved to approve File DFAA Industrial Tax Exemptions Policy.  Mrs. Kimmell seconded the motion.

PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE FOR FOOD SERVICE AND SUPPLY BIDS

Mrs. Young moved to approve advertising for Food Service and Supply Bids.  Mrs. Westmoreland seconded the motion.

Mr. Dayton moved to approve the 2018 Board Committee Assignments.  Mrs. Westmoreland seconded the motion.
