ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

JUNE 9, 2020

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on June 9, 2020 at 7:00pm, at the ZHS Visual & Performing Art Center, 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Owen.

ROLL CALL: Mrs. Vessel, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Westmoreland, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Kimmell, Mrs. Watkins      2 Absent – Mr. Dayton & Mr. Mackie

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve the minutes for the May 5, 2020 Board Meeting.  Mr. Hughes seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

VOTE:    7 YEAS    0 NAYS    2 ABSENT

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Devillier welcomed everyone and thanked the parents for all of their support that they have shown during the COVID 19.  He thanked the students for being such model students during this time.  Mr. Devillier reported that we will have a Region 2 Superintendent Meeting on Monday, June 15, 2020 at the high school.

RECOGNITION OF STUDENT OF THE YEAR 2020

The board presented plaques to the following Students of the Year: Zachary Early Learning Center – Ruby Crowder, Northwestern Elementary School – Alejandra Batarseh-Suazo, Rollins Place Elementary School – Stella Morgan, Zachary Elementary School – Makenzi Barrow, Copper Mill Elementary School – Preston Horton, Northwestern Middle School – Nyla Doiron, Zachary High School – Jessica Schwendimann.  -  Jessica Schwendimann was unable to attend.

LOUISIANA ATTESTATION QUESTIONNAIRE

Mrs. Watkins moved to adopt the Louisiana Attestation Questionnaire.  Mr. Owen seconded the motion.

AUDIT ENGAGEMENT FOR 2019-2020

Mr. Hughes moved to approve the 2019-2020 Audit Engagement with Postlethwaite & Netterville and grant the Superintendent permission to sign.  Mrs. Westmoreland seconded the motion.  (See Attached)

FENNWOOD HILLS CONTRACT

Mr. Hughes moved to approve the Fennwood Hills Contract.  Mrs. Kimmell seconded the motion.

2020-2021 STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES HANDBOOK

Mr. Hughes moved to table the 2020-2021 Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook until the June 30, 2020 Special Board Meeting.  Mrs. Westmoreland seconded the motion.   (See Attached)

COVID -19 UPDATE

Mr. Devillier thanked the staff and the board for all of the work that they have done during this time.  He told the board that it’s still too early to say what is going to happen with the opening of school and we are hoping to know more in the coming weeks.  Mrs. Williams explained the Care Act to the board.  The board thanked Mr. Devillier and Staff for all what they do each day for the district.
