ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

JUNE 30, 2020

The Zachary Community School Board held a Public Hearing on the 2020-2021 Budget on June 30, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at the Zachary High School Visual and Performing Arts Center, Band Room, 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary, Louisiana.

The meeting was called to order by Vice President, Brandy Westmoreland.

Mr. Devillier recommended that the board adopt the 2020-2021 Budget.

There was no public comment.

Mr. Hughes made a motion to adjourn and Mrs. Kimmell seconded the motion.

The Public Hearing Meeting was closed at 6:02 p.m.

The Zachary Community School Board Special Board Meeting was held on June 30, 2020 at 6:02 pm, in the Band Room at Zachary High School Visual and Performing Arts Center, at 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Invocation was led by Mrs. Kimmell.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Westmoreland.

ROLL CALL: Mrs. Westmoreland, Mrs. Young, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Mackie, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Kimmell, Mrs. Watkins       1 ABSENT - Mr. Dayton   

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mr. Hughes moved to approve the minutes for the June 9, 2020 Resource Committee, Work Session and Board Meeting.  Mrs. Kimmell seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

VOTE:    7 YEAS    0 NAYS    1 ABSENT

RECOGNITION OF BOARD MEMBER HEIDI VESSEL – DISTRICT 6

The board recognized Board Member Heidi Vessel – District 6.  Mrs. Vessel resigned from the board as she moved out of District 6. The board presented Heidi with a plaque.

APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBER DISTRICT 6

Mrs. Young moved to approve the appointment of Dr. Elecia Lathon as Board Member for District 6.  Mr. Hughes seconded the motion.

VOTE:  7 YEAS  0 NAYS  1 ABSENT

Dr. Lathon was sworn in by Board Attorney, Ricky McDavid and took her seat.

2020-2021 STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES HANDBOOK

Mrs. Kimmell moved to approve the 2020-2021 Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.  Mr. Mackie seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

VOTE:    8 YEAS   0  NAYS  1 ABSENT

2020-2021 BUDGET

Mrs. Young moved to approve the 2020-2021 Budget.  Mr. Hughes seconded the motion (See Attached)

There was no public comment.

DISCUSSION OF SCHOOL RE-OPENING

Mr. Devillier shared a power point presentation entitled ZCSD Reopening of School for 2020 that presented options for school reopening and issues that need to be considered.  The board will hold a Special Board Meeting on July 9, 2020 to make final decisions on the plans for the 2020 reopening.
