January 26, 2021 Board Retreat

Mr. Mackie called the Board Retreat to order at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.  The invocation was led by Mrs. Watkins.

Roll Call:  Mr. Mackie, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Kimmell, Mrs. Westmoreland, Mrs. Watkins, Mrs. Young, Mr. Dayton, Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Lathon (attended via virtual)

School Board Member Training – Mr. Robert L Hammonds, J.D., of Hammonds, Sills, Adkins & Guice, LLP, gave a presentation on the following:  Powers, Duties and Responsibilities of School Boards, Louisiana School Law/Ethics, and Open Meetings Laws.    (See attached)

2021 Board Committees – Assignments for the 2021 Board Committees were discussed.  Revisions made will be voted on at the February 2, 2021 board meeting.

BESE Fast Forward Program – A presentation was given by Dr. Jeff Hand on the BESE Fast Forward Program.  This program is designed to improve career and college readiness of graduates as well as satisfy demands of the workforce.  (See attached)

COVID-19 Update– Mr. Devillier and Mrs. Williams gave an update on employee and student Covid-19 cases.  Safety measures being taken throughout the district was also discussed.

COVID-19 Emergency Sick Leave – A motion was made by Mr. Dayton to adopt Policy File: GBRIBC- Addendum Emergency Paid Sick Leave (COVID-19 Pandemic).  Mr. Owen second the motion.
