ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

February 7, 2023

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on February 7, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Invocation was led by Mr. Gaines

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Talbot

ROLL CALL: Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Young, Mr. Talbot, Mr. Mackie, Dr. Lathon, Mr. Gaines, Dr. London, Mr. Dayton. 1 ABSENT – Mrs. Freeman

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mr. Mackie moved to approve the minutes for the January 17, 2023 Work Session and Board Meeting, January 23, 2023 Mini Board Retreat.

Mr. Hughes seconded the motion.

RECOGNITION OF ZACHARY ELEMENTARY PATRIOT ROLAND DOUCET – MILITARY ORDER OF PURPLE HEART BATON ROUGE CHAPTER # 177

Mr. Richard O’Brien presented Zachary Elementary with a Purple Heart Plaque. Mr. O’Brien told the board that every year Zachary Elementary puts on a program honoring the Veterans. Mr. O’Brien went on to say that he never has been in a school where the students are so polite and has so much respect for the Veterans.

RECOGNITION OF MYAN & MYRIK MITCHELL

The board recognized Myan and Myrik Mitchell and presented them with a certificate. They recently starred in the movie, “Inner City Blues.”

RECOGNITION OF RETIREE

The board recognized Julie Belke and presented her with a plaque.

2021-2022 ANNUAL AUDIT REPORT

Amanda Strebeck of Postlethwaite & Netterville, Inc. presented the 2021-2022 annual Audit Repoort. Mrs. Strebeck reported that the Zachary Community School Board was in excellent financial and business shape.

Mr. Gaines moved to approve the 2021-2022 Audit Report. Mr. Hughes seconded the motion.

2023-2024 SCHOOL CALENDAR

Mrs. Young moved to approve the 2023-2024 School Calendar. Dr. Lathon seconded the motion.

ADMINISTRATIVE CONTRACTS

Dr. London moved to table the Administrative Contracts and bring the contracts to the Resources Committee.  Mrs. Young seconded the motion.

PERMISSION FOR DR. CRYSTAL LONDON TO TRAVEL OUT OF STATE TO TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA, FOR COSSBA NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MARCH 29-APRIL 2, 2023

Mr. Mackie moved to give permission for Dr. Crystal London to travel out of state to Tampa Bay, Florida, for COSSBA National Conference on March 29-April 2, 2023.  Mr. Talbot seconded the motion.

2022 SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER TRAINING RESOLUTION

Mr. Hughes moved to adopt the 2022 School Board Member Training Resolution.  Mr. Gaines seconded the motion.          (See Attached)

Mrs. Young moved to approve the 2023 Board Committees.  Mr. Hughes seconded the motion.

GEORGIA PACIFIC TAX EXEMPTION

Mr. Hughes moved to approve the Georgia Pacific Tax Exemption ITE # 20220110 for Industrial Tax Exemption Program.  Dr. Lathon seconded the motion.
