ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

March 21, 2023

 

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on March 21, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at Northwestern Middle School, 5200 East Central Avenue, Zachary, Louisiana.

The Invocation was led by Mr. Hughes.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Talbot.

 

ROLL CALL: Mr. Dayton, Mrs. Young, Mr. Talbot, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Mackie, Mrs. Freeman, Dr. Lathon, Mr. Gaines, Dr. London  0 ABSENT

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mr. Mackie moved to approve the minutes for the February 6, 2023 Committee of the Whole, February 7, 2023 Work Session, Board Meeting and March 16, 2023 Committee of the Whole.   Mr. Hughes seconded the motion.

There was no public comment.

RECOGNITION OF ZHS BRONCO BELLES – UDA NATIONAL DANCE TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The board presented the ZHS Bronco Belles with certificates.  (See Attached)

 

RECOGNITION OF GIRLS STATE CHAMPION WRESTLERS

The board presented Addison Mayers and Makayla Holiday with a certificate.  They were the first girls wrestling state champions in school history.  They also have the distinction of being champions in the first Louisiana Girls State Championships in history.

 

RECOGNITION OF TRACK & FIELD STATE CHAMPIONS

The board presented a certificate to Rhen Langley for being named the 2023 LSHAA Boys Indoor Division 1 State Champion and Jaydan Jackson for being named the 2023 LSHAA girls Indoor Division 1 State Shot Put Champion.

 

RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST – CLAIRE VENABLE

The board presented Claire Venable with a certificate.

 

RECOGNITION FOR THE ELEMENTARY HONOR CHOIR AND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL/JUNIOR HIGH HONOR CHOIR PARTICIPATION IN THE NATIONAL HONOR CHOIRS AT THE AMERICAN CHORAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE

The board presented certificates to the following students: Tayelon Beard, Savannah Broussard, Linda Casey, Donovan Clark, Donovan Clark, Emma Gremillion, Joy London, Kaylie Minnor, Chloe Reno, Addison Sloan, Olivia Trent, Chyna Walker, and Karley Williams

 

RECOGNITION OF ZHS CAMILLA HOWELL – FIRST PLACE AT THE STATE POETRY OUT LOUD CONTEST

The board presented a certificate to Camilla Howell.

 

RECOGNITION OF ZHS HAILEY GLEASON - FIRST PLACE WINNER LSBA 2023 ARTWORK CONTEST – Hailey Gleason was not able to attend.

 

RECOGNITION OF ZHS MAE EDEL – FIRST PLACE WINNER AT THE BETA CLUB STATE CONVENTION ONSITE DRAWING

The board presented a certificate to Mae Edel.

 

RECOGNITION OF ZHS CLAIRE CONNOR – FIRST PLACE AT THE BETA CLUB STATE CONVENTION HANDMADE JEWELRY

The board presented a certificate to Claire Connor.

 

PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE FOR FOOD SERVICE AND SUPPLY BIDS

Mr. Hughes moved to give permission to advertise for food service and supply bids.  Mr.  Mackie seconded the motion.

2023-2024 OFFICIAL JOURNAL

Mrs. Young moved to approve The Advocate as our 2023-2024 Official Journal.  Mr. Mackie seconded the motion.                     (See Attached)

ADMINISTRATIVE CONTRACTS

Dr. Lathon moved to approve the Administrative Contracts.   Mr. Gaines seconded the motion.

SET BUDGET AND PERMISSION TO BID BRONCO STADIUM TURF REPLACEMENT

Mr. Hughes moved to set budget at seven hundred thousand dollars and permission to bid on the Bronco Stadium turf replacement.  Mr. Mackie seconded the motion.
