The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on January 23, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. moved to approve the minutes for the December 5 2023, Resources Committee Meeting, Work Session and Board Meeting. Mr. seconded the motion.

RECOGNITION OF RETIREES
The board recognized David Onellion and Karin Lawless. The board presented each with a plaque and wished them a happy retirement.
Mr. H moved to approve File: CG - Administrative Records, File DFK – Gifts and Donations, File: EBBH – Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Cardiac Emergency Plan, File: GAG – Probation, File: IHAD – Parent Conference, File: JGB – School Wellness, File: JGC – Student Health Services. Mr. seconded the motion.

RESOLUTION FOR BANK OF ZACHARY CARDS
Mr. H moved to approve the Resolution giving Mr. Necaise permission to sign the application on behalf of the Zachary Community School Board for a credit card from the Bank of Zachary. Mr. M seconded the motion.

Mr. H moved to approve the 2024-2025 School Calendar. Mr. seconded the motion.

EARLY READMISSION REQUEST KR
Kade Russell, Student and Parent, Mrs. Russell.
EXPULSION APPEAL KM
Mr. Necaise told the board that Mr. Burke will speak, then the student’s parents will have the opportunity to speak. He wanted the board to know that they have 3 choices to make: affirm, reverse or modify the decision that the Hearing Officer made.
After hearing from Mr. Burke and Kade Russell (the student), and Mrs. Russell, the board asked questions.
Mrs. Lindsey Spence – Principal at Zachary High School, spoke on zero tolerance at Zachary High School.
Mr. Gaines moved to Affirm the Expulsion as stands. Mrs. Freeman seconded the motion.
Dr. Young moved to have a Substitute Motion to Affirm the Expulsion but to modify the amount of days served to a 90 day Expulsion which would let Kade back into school on February 29, 2024 instead of ending on May 23, 2024. Dr. London seconded the motion.
Before the Roll Call Vote was taken, Amy Massingill and Brett Massingill spoke on the student’s character.
