POLITICAL CAMPAIGN MATERIALS AND

POLITICAL SOLICITATIONS IN SCHOOLS

 

 

The Zachary Community School Board has established the following guidelines for political activities on School Board property:

 

 

  1. Except as stated herein, no person, including candidates for public office, shall be permitted to solicit votes or support from employees, students or visitors, on School Board property, including school buses.

  2. No employee shall be held accountable to the Zachary Community School Board for political activities in which the employee engages while not on School Board property and not at work or while not engaged in employment activities.

  3. The Zachary Community School Board dictates that political candidates running for public office shall not be permitted to display political signage, to disseminate political literature or paraphernalia at any school related event or on school property.

  4. Within a standard of reasonableness, nothing contained in this policy shall restrict an individual from displaying bumper stickers, magnetic signs or similar customary political campaign signs on a personal vehicle.  However, recreational vehicles and trailers displaying political campaign signs or other campaign paraphernalia shall be prohibited on School Board property. Within a standard of reasonableness, nothing contained in this policy shall restrict an individual from wearing an article of clothing with customary political campaign signage. The standard of reasonableness shall be determined by the Superintendent or his designee.

  5. If a donation is publicly acknowledged by the Zachary Community School Board, the Zachary Community School District or someone employed or acting as an agent for the Zachary Community School District, the acknowledgement will not contain the political office of the person making the donation or the political office for which the person making the donation is a candidate.
